Indio's destination gay club is one step closer to opening.
The city's Planning Commission approved a provisional-use permit for the land at the corner of Indio Boulevard and Civic Center Drive to be used by a
club called El Destino. The vote Wednesday was unanimous.
The club, which is expected to open in mid-April, will cater to the gay Latinos in the valley and Southern California.
"Hopefully, it will help jump start the area," Commissioner Glenn Miller said about the project.
For years, the city has
| worked on the revitalization of Old Town and had mentioned the desire for more restaurants and
businesses that will promote foot traffic and bring people to the downtown.
"I'm looking forward to it," said Commissioner Jacquie Bethel.
The 2,597-square-foot building, formerly the Tres Caballeras brewery, will offer a traditional happy hour with food and a Latin club dance floor at night.
There also will be a disc jockey's booth and an outdoor patio.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and dinner from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m, with a late-night appetizer menu serving until 2 a.m., city staff reports said.

The interior and exterior of the building will be renovated. The interior will feature a DJ console and dance floor area long the north side of the building.
Two aluminum tempered glass double doors on the west end of the building will lead out to a outdoor patio surrounded by shrubs and trees in planter boxes,
the proposal said.
Owner J. Anthony Perez said he's wanted to open such a business for 25-years now.
"El Destino will be a dream come true," he said.
